Golf results

Roy Swanson had low gross of 38 and Dick Coon had low net of 24 in Blueberry Senior Men's Golf League play Monday at Blueberry Hill Golf Club. Ron McClement had second low gross of 39 and Pat Hultquist had third low gross of 40 while Jeff Frailey had second low net of 27 and Ted Bleech third low net of 28.

Coon had two birdies during play while Frailey, Jim Senger, Randy Grant, Dave Progar, Swanson, Dick Huckabone, Bob Cisek and Hultquist had one each. Here are the team results from Monday's round:

Jim Fehlman had low gross of 38 and Don Hook and Tom Messinger shared low net of 30 in Youngsville Senior Golf League play Tuesday at Maplehurst Country Club. Pete Hofert had second low gross of 39.

D-10 playoffs

The Warren softball team will open the District 10 Class AAA Softball Playoffs at 5 p.m. Thursday at Allegheny College in Meadville. Opposing the Dragons for a trip to the D-10 Class AAA title game will be the Hickory Hornets.

The Warren baseball team will open the District 10 Class AAA Baseball Playoffs at 6:30 p.m. Friday at Slippery Rock University. The Dragons will take on the Grove City Golden Eagles who defeated the Harbor Creek Huskies, 1-0, on Tuesday.

PIAA Track

The Pennsylvania Cable Network (PCN) will provide same-day coverage of the 2012 PIAA Track & Field Championships, beginning at 5 p.m. Saturday. The network will also air encore presentations of the event on Memorial Day, beginning at 9 a.m.

PCN can be found on Atlantic Broadband channel 13 in Warren and on Youngsville Cable channel 41.

College news

Youngsville High School graduate and Waynesburg University senior pitcher Ben Oviatt was recently honored by the American Baseball Coaches Association (ABCA) as members of its 2012 ABCA/Rawlings NCAA Division III All-Mideast Region Teams.

Oviatt was listed as a third-team pick after not only leading Waynesburg in wins on the mound with nine, but also putting together the largest victory total for a Jacket hurler this century. He also boasted a team-best 2.62 ERA, worked on a squad-high 79 innings and notched a team-high nine complete games, two of which were shutouts. The Youngsville product ranked fourth in the President's Athletic Conference (PAC) in ERA. 10th in the conference in opposing batting average (.268), fourth in innings pitched and second in wins.

Cycling

Former Warren Area High School wrestlers Dan Pascuzzi and Ryan Uber participated in the annual Presque Isle Cycling Club Spring Series. Pascuzzi rode away with the points championship, winning two races while Uber added a victory of his own and completed a fourth-place finish in the points.

Pascuzzi and Uber's biggest challenge came from Buffalo, N.Y.'s The Bike Shop team that outnumbered the Warren duo, nine to two. Despite that fact, Pascuzzi and Uber were able to roll to first and fourth in the points, respectively.
