Big 30 coaches
The coaching staff for the Pennsylvania team in the annual Don Raabe Big 30 Charities Classic football game has been announced. The game will be played on Saturday, August 4, at Bradford's Parkway Field.
Sheffield head football coach Bryan Gould will coach the Keystone State team this season. Gould is a social studies teacher at Sheffield High School and has been head coach for three seasons and an assistant for another two. Joining Gould will be several of his Sheffield assistant coaches including Dave Fitch, Jeremy Snell and Steve Crozier.
Hole-in-one
Jerry Bancroft, CVCC member, recorded his second ever hole-in-one at Conewango Valley Country Club on Wednesday. His ace came on the par 3, 16th hole at CVCC. It measured 173 yards and he used a 5-iron. It was witnessed by Mike Bancroft.
Rec softball
Larry's Cantina opened the Richard T. Betts Rec Modified Softball League season with a dominating 30-3 victory over The Bucket Wednesday at Betts Park. Nick Luther was 4-for-5 with a home run for the winners, Nick Quagliana was 3-for-5 with a homer of his own, and winning pitcher Ryan Vandevelde also belted out three hits. Mitch Kyser also homered for the winners.

College news
Youngsville High School graduate Ben Oviatt was named to the 2012 All-Presidents' Athletic Conference team as a member of the Division III Waynesburg University baseball team this spring.
As a second-team selection, Oviatt had one of the best regular seasons for a Waynesburg pitcher in recent memory. He led the team in pitching wins with nine, had a team-best 2.62 ERA in 79 innings, and had nine complete games and two shutouts. He was fourth in the conference in ERA, 10th in opponents' batting average (.268), fourth in innings pitched and second in wins.
Oviatt worked an addition 6 1/3 innings on Wednesday in Waynesburg's 8-7 loss to Penn State Behrend in the Eastern Collegiate Athletic Conference playoffs. The senior allowed five runs on seven hits and a walk. Waynesburg finished 22-19 overall.
J.V. baseball
Corry held Warren to just two hits during a 6-0 victory in junior varsity baseball play on Wednesday. Johnny White took the loss for the Dragons despite allowing only four hits.

Wood bat tourney
The 5th Annual Wooden Bat Slow Pitch Softball Tournament, benefitting the Warren Jaycees, will be held Saturday, May 26, at Betts. Teams are guaranteed four games with a $175 entry fee. Wood bats will be provided. To register, call Jason Harkins at 706-2789.
