Elk Township Historical Society will host its second annual photography contest, "Images of Elk Township," for amateur photographers. Everyone is invited to submit photos taken in Elk Township, Warren County.
Six categories include people, vintage, nature, animals, black and white and flora. There will be first, second and third-place ribbons in each category and a best of show award chosen from all photos entered. The photographs will be judged by three artistic people knowledgeable in the art of photography. Visitors to the show throughout the summer will have the opportunity to vote on Peoples' Choice awards in each category. Matted (not framed) photographs will be accepted May 1 through July 5 at the Elk Township Historical Society (former Scandia School) at the four corners in Scandia on Monday, Wednesday and Friday mornings. Other arrangements can be made by contacting elktwphistorical@verizon.net. Photos may not be edited or altered, except for minor color, contract or sharpness adjustments; no embellishments of text or art are permitted.
An opening reception will be held on Saturday, July 7, at 7 p.m. when all photos will be displayed with the judge's ribbons. Bring your family along; enjoy the display and refreshments during this special evening. The museum will be open as well, if you haven't had a chance to take a tour.
A Chinese auction will be held; proceeds will benefit Elk Township Historical Society. Photographs will continue to be displayed until the closing gala in October, when Peoples' Choice awards will be presented.
You need not be a resident of Elk Township to participate; the event is open to everyone. For information on the rules for the contest, call 757-4443, 757-8186 or 757-8491.
