Dear editor:
And the beat goes on.....I had submitted a rather lengthy list of "right to know" items to the Warren County School District. They requested a 30 day extension and I finally got my information after paying $148.25 for 500 plus pages. When I went to pick them up, our new superintendent, Mr. Hufnagel, walked out with the the open records officer and never even acknowledged that I was there. I would think that as a somewhat new superintendent he would have wanted to introduce himself to someone who has an lifelong interest in this county. But I guess he just wanted to see who I was???
Within the first ten minutes of going through these copies, I noticed that Mr. Hufnagel made "14 moving trips" between York, Pa and Warren and was reimbursed mileage expense to the tune of $3,807.30. We, as taxpayers, also paid his rent, electric and propane bills. I am not sure that these items are truly "moving expenses" especially the 14 trips from York to Warren!! A rented U-haul would have been cheaper with only one trip required. Mr. Hufnagle was alloted $7,500.00 for moving expenses, has spent $6689.13, and still has not "moved" to Warren.
Stay tuned......
Respectfully, Cheryl A. Miles
Former Warren County Auditor
PS: Publication 521 of the Federal guidelines on moving expenses states that temporary living expenses are not a legitimate deduction.
