May 12, 2012
The Times Observer

Region assignments for the 2012-2014 cycle became official at a recent meeting of the District 10 committee. Here are the new region assignments for county teams participating in each sport for the fall, winter and spring sports seasons.

The region assignments - affecting Warren, Eisenhower and Youngsville high schools (Sheffield is in District 9) - will go into effect for the 2012 fall season and run through the 2014 spring season.

(Proposed regions were published in the Times Observer previously; there have been slight changes)

Girls Tennis

Warren's girls tennis team will see its region largely unchanged for the region cycle of 2012-2014. Strong Vincent and General McLane, two teams that had been in Warren's region, will not be included in the new cycle as both schools have dropped their tennis programs.

Region 2 (AA, AAA): Central Tech (AAA), Fairview, McDowell (AAA), Mercyhurst Prep, Villa Maria, Warren

Football

Youngsville and Eisenhower will remain in Region 2 for the upcoming football season. Only the Saegertown Panthers have left Region 2 as they are now classified as a Class AA program.

Warren's football team is now in Region 5 and the changes in opposition will be many. Of the teams in their region last season, only Bradford remains. New region competition for the Dragons will be Slippery Rock, Oil City, Franklin, DuBois, Bradford and Meadville.

Region 2 (A): Cambridge Springs, Cochranton, Eisenhower, Iroquois, Mercyhurst Prep, Union City, Youngsville, Maplewood

Region 5 (AAA, AAAA): Slippery Rock, Oil City, Franklin, DuBois (AAAA), Meadville, Bradford, Warren

Boys Golf

For the first time in recent memory, the Eisenhower Knights and Warren Dragons will compete in different boys gold regions. Warren will compete in Region 3 alongside Grove City, Slippery Rock, Meadville and Oil City while Ike matches up with Rocky Grove, Franklin, Titusville and Corry. Both schools are classified as Class AA.

Region 3 (AAA): Grove City, Slippery Rock, Meadville, Warren, Oil City

Region 5 (AA): Rocky Grove, Eisenhower, Franklin, Titusville, Corry

Girls Golf

The Warren girls golf team bumps up to Class AAA from Class AA a season ago. The Class AAA classification puts Warren into the newly formed Region 3 for girls golf with Strong Vincent, Meadville and McDowell.

Region 3 (AAA): Warren, Strong Vincent, Meadville, McDowell

Cross Country

No changes here. Both the boys and girls cross country programs for Eisenhower, Youngsville and Warren will remain in Region 4 and face all of the same competition from the 2010-2012 region cycle.

Region 4 (boys) (A, AA): Corry (AA), North East, Seneca, Union City, Eisenhower, Youngsville, Fort LeBoeuf (AA), Harbor Creek (AA), Warren (AA)

Warren will no longer compete with the Youngsville and Eisenhower programs in region competition. The Dragons will move to Region 4 and compete against Conneaut, Oil City, Titusville, Franklin, Meadville and Corry. The Eisenhower boys soccer team will compete in Region 3 with the same teams from a season ago with the exception of North East who joins for 2012-2014. Warren is in Region 4 for the new cycle. The Dragons no longer have Franklin in their region and will instead face Saegertown in region play for 2012-2014.

Region 3 (A): Eisenhower, Fairview, Mercyhurst Prep, Iroquois, Seneca, North East

Region 4 (AA): Oil City, Titusville, Bradford, Saegertown, Warren, Corry

Girls Soccer

In girls soccer, Eisenhower will see an addition of four teams in region play for 2012-2014. Last season, the Knights competed against Maplewood and Iroquois and those teams remain for the new cycle with the addition of Fairview, North East, Seneca and Conneaut Valley.

The Warren girls' region remains largely unchanged with the lone addition being that of Erie East.

Region 4 (AA): Mercyhurst Prep, Villa Maria, Warren, Corry, Bradford, East

Boys Basketball

Youngsville will drop down to Class A from Class AA for the new region cycle. Further changes in District 10 have come to pass because of the Conneaut School District vote to consolidate. Because of this, a new region has been formed with Cochranton, Eisenhower, Cambridge Springs, Conneaut, Maplewood, Saegertown and Youngsville being grouped together.

The Warren boys' region has only one change with Central Tech departing and Strong Vincent being added.

Region 3 (A, AA, AAA): Cochranton, Conneaut (AAA), Eisenhower, Youngsville, Cambridge Springs (AA), Maplewood (AA), Saegertown (AA)

Region 6 (AAA): Corry, East, Fort LeBoeuf, General McLane, Girard, Harbor Creek, Warren, Strong Vincent

Girls Basketball

The consolidation of the Conneaut School District also affects both the Eisenhower and Youngsville girls basketball programs. With the loss in schools, the Knights and Eagles are now in a region with Cochranton, Conneaut, Saegertown, Maplewood and Cambridge Springs.

Changes are aplenty for the Warren girls basketball team as far as region play goes. The Dragons will no longer compete against Fairview, General McLane and North East. However, the one addition to Warren's region will be Villa Maria - the three-time defending PIAA Class AA state champions. After a successful run in Class AA, the Victors return to Class AAA for next season.

Region 6 (AAA): Corry, Fort LeBoeuf, Harbor Creek, Mercyhurst Prep, Warren, Villa Maria

Wrestling

The Eisenhower and Youngsville wrestling teams remain in Region 3 for the upcoming region cycle. All region competition remains the same with the exception of Corry who joins Region 3 after dropping from Class AAA to Class AA.

Warren's Region 4 loses Corry to Region 3 as well as Franklin which dropped down to Class AA. Joining Warren's region from Class AA will be Oil City.
