Volunteers Needed

Corps looking for a few good hosts for dam programs

Kinzua Dam is one of the premier tourist attractions in Warren County.

In order to help the many tourists get more out of their visits, the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers is looking for help.

"Several part-time volunteers will be needed to fill Visitor Center Host positions starting June 1, 2012," a release from Park Ranger Steve Lauser said. "These positions involve staffing the Kinzua Visitor Center daily from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m."

The volunteers are needed through October to cover the recreation season. Lauser said work schedules are flexible with many part-time options available.

The Corps of Engineers welcomes applications, particularly from retired senior citizens, and high school and college students, according to Lauser. Volunteers under the age of 18 must have their parental or legal guardian consent.

Visitor Center hosts perform a number of duties at the center, including providing assistance and information to visitors; explaining rules and regulations; operating and maintaining audio/visual displays; planning, development, preparation and presentation of tours of the dam, nature walks, water safety demonstrations, and programs and events on and off site; preparing public information, press releases, radio announcements, bulletin boards, posters, and flyers; photographing interpretive events, facilities and visitors, and maintaining a library of photos and slides; and operating special displays and booths at local events.

Not all hosts will perform all tasks.

Additional information and applications are available by contacting the Kinzua Dam office at 726-0661.
