Home St. trees

Dear editor:

I don't live in Warren any longer, but I grew up there. I still have family and friends there and still consider Warren home. Being home last fall I saw the demise of Home Street School. I'm sure everyone living up Conewango Ave hoped that beautiful old building would stand forever in testimony to all the generation of families whose children went to school there. I believe everyone saw the end coming with all the grade schools moving, the poor economy and the deterioration of the building. After the building was razed, I saw people coming to the site everday with tears in their eyes to get one memento of their cherished school. Everything passes....but at least the two hugh maples that stood in tribute to all those wonderful memories would be there for us to enjoy, and to show our grandkids and say yeah, thats where I used to go to school.

Got the call today, that without any word or comment from anyone, they knocked those two beautiful old maples down. Why? It just doesn't make sense, no matter what they plan on doing with the propery(although no one seems to know for sure) they could have saved those 100-year-old maples. Someone could have done the right thing but unfortunately no thought was put into this, or perhaps lot of thought was put into this and they just didn't care.

Thank you
