Boosters to meet
There will be a meeting of the Warren Area High School Band Boosters at 6:30 p.m. Tuesday May 8, in the band room at WAHS. Information on the upcoming band trip will be discussed. Everyone is welcome.
Class to breakfast
Youngsville Class of 1961 will hold its monthly breakfast get-together on Wednesday, May 9, at 9 a.m. at Richard's Restaurant in Youngsville. All class alumni from grade one to 12 are invited to attend. Spouses, significant others and friends are welcome.
Writing contest
Flip, Jot and Flick: The 2012 Flip, Jot and Flick creative writing contest is now underway. This program involves reading a book, writing a creative story and then enjoying a movie version of the book. There is a title per month for the months of June, July and August. The 2012 titles are: Voyage of the Dawn Treader by C.S. Lewis (June); Puss in Boots by Charles Perrault (July); Diary of a Wimpy Kid: Rodrick Rules by Jeff Kinney (August). Voyage of the Dawn Treader is the current contest. This year any child between the ages of preschool and high school can participate. Writing packets are currently available in the Warren Public Library Children's Department. The first twelve children to sign up will receive a free copy of the book to keep along with their writing packet; one book per family. The packet gives full instructions. Submissions are due into the Children's Department by Friday, June 1. The winner will be announced before the free showing of the movie at the Struthers Library Theatre on Saturday, June 9, at 11 a.m. The winner will receive a DVD of the movie, a full color movie poster, a canvas library bag and publication of their story along with their photo in the Warren Times Observer. Participating organizations include the Warren Public Library, the Warren Times Observer and the Struthers Library Theatre. Contact children's librarian Susan Slater at 723-4650 with any questions.
