Sheffield track and field standout Kalil Slaughter likes to be challenged. When the annual McDowell Invitational track meet rolled around on Saturday, Slaughter was out front. He won three events among some of the best western Pennsylvania high school athletes track has to offer, including new school records in the 100-meter dash (10.78 seconds) and 200 (21.93 seconds). He won the long jump in 20 feet, 7 3/4 inches - almost eight inches better than second place. If you think Slaughter wins Athlete of the Week every week, he definitely makes a case; he won all four events at the Kane Invitational two weeks ago and, earlier this week, he entered the high jump for a change and qualified for the District 9 Class AA meet with a six-foot jump. The defending District 9 champion in the 100 and 200, and with the 4X100 relay at Sheffield, and state runner-up in the 100-meter dash is the Times Observer Athlete of the Week, sponsored by McDonald's. By the way, he broke the school record in the 200 again yesterday in 21.4 seconds.
