The Warren Dragons tennis team secured at least a share of the Region 2 title Monday with a 5-0 victory over General McLane at Betts Park.
"If we win one more match, we will take sole possession of the region and we will have secured a position in the final four for the District 10 Team Championships," said Warren coach Jeff Bartsch.
Top Dragons singles player Shane Burns improved his record to 12-2 with a 6-1, 6-0 victory over McLane's Zane Wright. Thomas Pellegrino refused to relinquish a game in improving to 13-1 on the year as he defeated Derek Sower by a 6-0, 6-0 count.
The singles sweep was completed by Matt Sandberg who topped Linsey Sipple, 6-1, 6-1. Sandberg is a perfect 14-0 for the 2012 season.
At top doubles, the duo of Nathan Sandberg and Grayson Foley cruised to a 6-1, 6-2 win over their Lancers competition. The top doubles team is now 13-1 on the campaign? At second doubles, Liam Boger and Nick Tarpenning continued their winning ways with a 6-1, 6-0 victory. Like Sandberg and Foley, Boger and Tarpenning are 13-1 on the year.
Winning an exhibition doubles match for the Dragons were seniors Drew Lobdell and Tyler Madigan.
