Alexa Bupp and Rachel Hasselman smacked back-to-back homers in the third inning and Warren rebounded nicely from its only loss of the year with a 6-0 victory over Harbor Creek Monday at Hawbaker Field in the Farm Colony Complex.
In addition to her damage at the plate, Bupp was masterful on the mound, limiting the visitors to just one hit. Dragons coach Mark Bupp was extremely pleased with how his team battled back after a 4-1 loss to Fort LeBoeuf on Saturday.
"We were able to put together some timely hits today which is something we were unable to do on Saturday," said Bupp. "We stayed aggressive and were able to piece some things together."

Back-to-back
From left, Warren Area High School’s Alexa Bupp and Rachel Hasselman, who is getting congratulated by third base coach and head coach Mark Bupp, hit back-to-back home runs in the Dragons’ 6-0 win over Harbor Creek on Monday at Hawbaker Field. Bupp hit a two-run homer before Hasselman’s solo shot in a three-run third inning for Warren, tied in the loss column with Fort LeBoeuf for first place in Region 6.
In addition to allowing just one hit, Bupp was able to strike out 11 Huskies batters she faced.
"I was very happy with Lex's control today," said coach Bupp. "We played solid defense behind her as well. Kristin Hultquist made a great catch on a ball hit into right field and Kaitlin Ishman gave us a strong game at second base."
Warren took the lead for good with a pair of runs in the bottom of the second. With one out, Hultquist and Sam Bevevino delivered back-to-back singles to put runners on first and third. After the second out moved Bevevino to second, Taylor Mineweaser smacked a two-run single into the outfield to bring home Hultquist and Bevevino.
"That was a huge hit for us," said Bupp of Mineweaser's hit. "I'm very pleased with the way she has been coming to the plate and working hard. She has given us several quality at-bats and I think that right there is a great example of that."
The game was busted open in the third when Warren pushed the lead to 5-0. After a one-out single by Jaimie Eaton, Bupp cleared the bases with her sixth homer of the year to make it 4-0. Just moments later, Hasselman jacked her fourth homer of the season to make it 5-0.
An Ishman double and Bupp RBI single in the sixth closed out the scoring at 6-0.
The Dragons were also able to win the junior varsity game, 7-1. Ishman doubled and homered and Valerie Latimer tripled for the winners. Meghan Loutzenhiser allowed just one hit and struck out five while earning the victory.
The Dragons (12-1, 10-1 Region 6) return to action Thursday at McDowell.

Curwensville 16, Sheffield 1, Game 2
Curwensville made quick work of Sheffield in a doubleheader Monday at Sheffield Area High School, defeating the Lady Wolverines, 10-0 and 16-1, dropping Sheffield to 2-8 on the season.
In game one, the Wolverines were limited to just one extra base hit with Maddie Fiscus delivering a single in the second inning of the five-inning game. The Golden Tide finished with 10 runs on 12 hits.
In the nightcap, Curwensville was able to plate 16 runners in a four-inning affair. Sheffield ended that game with three hits, including two from Hannah Vile and another from Erin Fry. Third baseman Brooke Hoffman drove in Sheffield's only run of the day with an RBI groundout.
Sheffield returns to action Wednesday, visiting DuBois Central Catholic in the completion of a doubleheader postponed last week by rain. DCC won the opening game, 8-3, before wet weather forced postponement of the second contest.
