Cuts at top

April 27, 2012
The Times Observer

Dear editor:

The citizens of the Warren County School District have been reading much lately about the difficulties of bridging the budget gap as a result of the funding cuts to education by the Corbett administration.

We've read of the furloughs of teachers-and more to come. We have read about the increase in class size as a result of the loss of teachers and office staffs in the various schools.

What we have not read one sentence about is whether the administration itself is willing to take some cuts themselves. I haven't heard the superintendent utter one word whether staff at the upper most reaches of the school district will be cutting back as well.

Why is this? It seems to me that I read a report in the T/O some time ago that showed that our school district has a large percentage of upper administration in comparison to the number of actual students. It seems to me, if we're going to ask our children to bear the burden of larger class sizes with fewer teachers-the administration might actually lead by example and drop a few folks at the upper level as well.

Very truly yours,

Mark Fischer
