Stand Your Ground

April 23, 2012
The Times Observer

Dear Editor,

I'm one of those few rare hunters that do not view gun control as gun elimination. I think the NRA has scared everyone to the point we almost want to start arming our children. Point in case: STAND YOUR GROUND.

Dodge City, Kansas in the 1860's or any place in Florida in 2012? Two people, both armed, are in a heated argument. It doesn't matter who started the argument, their gender or even if the argument that makes any sense. Both people are standing their ground! Whoever shoots-to-kill first wins both the argument and their freedom. This law is not only supported by the National Rifle Association, it was initiated by the NRA in Florida. Isn't this just a "free pass" to commit murder? Is this really the direction we want our country to go?

The NRA seems to fight everything, even common sense things like mandatory background checks. With weapon technology today, a handgun is "a weapon of mass destruction" as proven in Arizona; and with the killing capacity exceeding that of a small bomb. There can be limits without elimination!
