TRACK: Ike boys sweep tri-meet

JOHNSONBURG - Eisenhower ventured out of District 10 and hopped into District 9 for a day, competing with Johnsonburg and Coudersport in a track & field tri-meet Thursday at Johnsonburg High School.

The Eisenhower boys improved their record to 5-1-1 with a sweep of the Rams and Falcons. The Knights bested Coudersport, 91-59 and toppled Johnsonburg 101-49.

The Lady Knights fared well in their one day jump into D-9, earning a split on the afternoon. The Knights defeated Coudersport, 76-72, but were defeated by the Lady Rams of Johnsonburg, 102-43.

Richard Knisley, Jake VanHouten and Matt Eernisse all were three-time winners for the Knights in the sweep. Knisley was an individual winner in the 110 hurdles and 800 as well as the 1600 relay with Andrew Onoratti, Nathan O'Brien and Eernisse.

VanHouten won three individual events with victories in the 100, 300 hurdles and triple jump while Eernisse was an individual victor in the 200 and 400.

Also winning for the Ike boys on Thursday were Anthony Amroski in both the 1600 and 3200, Colin Shine in the high jump, Ben Perkins in the pole vault and Onoratti in the long jump.

"I have a saying that all i ask for is one inch or one second and these kids really take that to heart," said Ike boys assistant coach Ryan Hoffman. "Matt Jewell took seven seconds of his 800 time and every runner in the 1600 lowered their mile times. We just had so many personal bests across the board today."

For the girls, Eisenhower finished the meet with just two winners - an individual and a relay team. The 3200 was especially kind to the Knights with the relay team of Julia Bauer, Courtney Jewell, Erica Littlefield and Grace Thompson winning the 4X800 relay in 14:25.9.

In the individual 3200 event, Mollie Marsh led an Eisenhower 1-2-3 sweep, finishing in 15:57.86. Thompson was second and Littlefield was third.

The Lady Knights (2-5) had several other performances to boast of in the event, including the second-place 400 performance turned in by Bizz Baran that was good enough for district qualification. Ike coach Mike Logue also praised the efforts of Taylor Talasky in the 200, Bauer - who broke six minutes in the mile - and Sidney Wallin who is delivering the best hurdles times for the Lady Knights in the past three to four years.

The Eisenhower girls are back in action Saturday, competing with Sheffield at the Kane Invitational.
