Spiritual program May 11-12

April 20, 2012
The Times Observer

"Streams and Pathways An Exploration of Spiritual Practices" with Ben Pease, youth pastor at Salem Covenant Church in New Brighton, Minn., will be presented at Pleasant Community Church, 673 Pleasant Dr., Warren May 11 and 12. The event will run form 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. Friday and from 9 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Saturday.

Participants will learn how to experience a deeper relationship with God, through prayer and how to keep prayer from turning into an empty routine.

According to Pease, in Isaiah 43: 19 God says, "I am about to do a brand new thing! Streams of living water in the wasteland and pathways through the wilderness." Pease' focus of Streams and Pathways is to allow God to shape these "streams of living water and pathways through the wilderness" in our lives, he explained.

Under the leadership of a trained facilitator, and together with friends from Pleasant Church, this prayer experience is designed to allow time to listen and notice the movements of God in our lives; to experience a variety of spiritual practices in order to allow time to hear God's still, small voice; and to create a rule of life-a pattern of spiritual practices providing structure and direction for growth in Christ.

Pease's favorite part of ministry is when God's children recognize God's work in, through and around their lives, and respond with wonder, commitment and faith, he explained. Pease studied chemical engineering at MIT, and is in graduate studies at North Park Theological Seminary. He loves being with his wife, Christi, and his three children. He also loves to hike and run, appreciates fresh air, and treasures any experience in God's creation that allows time for enjoyment, reflection and prayer.
