Eisenhower’s Richard Knisley competes in the boys 110-meter hurdles during a track & field meet with Meadville Tuesday at Eisenhower High School.

"Both (girls coach) Mark Sweet and I couldn't be happier with the way the kids performed in this weather," said Warren boys track coach Steve Norris. "The times were just slightly below what we see in perfect conditions so we can't be disappointed. It was a good day and the kids did I wonderful job. I know I wouldn't want to have been running today."

Brad Simmons and Tanner Rosenberg were right at home in the conditions much more applicable to mid-February than mid-April. Simmons had individual victories in the 1600 (5:03) and 3200 (10:53) and a relay win with Caleb Hultman, Rosenberg and Christian Harrington in the 3200 relay. Rosenberg was an individual winner in the 800 (2:08) and won the 1600 relay with Jordan Willetts, Luke Wortman and Hultman.

Junior Mark Davis was a two-time individual winner, claiming victory in the 200 with a run of 26.31 seconds and in the high jump with a leap of five feet, four inches. Davis and Nathan Zigler split the top spot in the high jump.

"Davis and Zigler both cleared six feet last week, but we stopped today after we had ensured ourselves of first and second place."

Zigler added a victory in the 110 hurdles (17.51), Wortman won the 400 (56.31), Willetts won the 100 (11.98) and Austin Jerman had the winning javelin throw of 152 feet, four inches.

Ellis Beardsley had the biggest night for the Lady Dragons in the victory over Franklin. Beardsley had two individual wins - the 800 and 1600 - and a pair of relay wins in the 1600 and 3200 relays. Beardsley's winning time in the 800 was 2:35.43 and the winning time in the 1600 was 5:56.49.

Later, she teamed with Sabrina Anderson, Casey Kulka and Anna Falvo to win the 1600 relay and with Falvo, Paige Rimer and Megan Smoulder to win the 3200 relay. Warren finished the relay sweep by winning the 4X100 event with Brooke Armanini, Kaitlyn Levesque, Anderson and Kulka.

Anderson was an individual win in the 200 with a run of 28.24 seconds, Amanda Castagnino won the 3200 with a run of 13:59, Lindsay Onuffer won the 300 hurdles with a run of 55.53 seconds, Emily Sherman won the shot put with a toss of 25 feet and Amanda Pinkerton was the discus winner with a throw of 76 feet.

The Dragons start their 2012 invitational schedule on Saturday when they travel to the Harbor Creek Invitational at Harbor Creek High School.

You win some, you lose some.

The Eisenhower boys track & field team was a runaway winner over the Meadville Bulldogs Tuesday at Eisenhower High School, winning a 110-31 decision.

On the flip side, the Ike girls team was no match for the powerful Lady Bulldogs, coming up on the losing side of a 119-22 count.

Ike boys coach David Bauer was pleased with the amount of kids who scored for his team, saying they performed well in difficult conditions.

"It was our first home meet and it was nice to be home," said Bauer. "The conditions were difficult, but they were the same for both teams. Our boys did well and we had a lot of athletes score who hadn't scored yet this season so that was nice to see."

All told, the Eisenhower boys had 12 different athletes record first-place finishes, including four apiece from Richard Knisley and Kollin King. Knisley won the 110 hurdles and 800 individually and also was a part of two winning relay teams. Knisley teamed with Nathan O'Brien, Andrew Onoratti and Matt Eernisse to win the 1600 relay and with Anthony Amroski, Devin VanGuilder and Greg Mizak to win the 3200 relay.

King was a monster in the sprinting events, winning the 100 with a run of 12.4, the 200 with a 25.7 and the 400 relay alongside Eernisse, Jake VanHouten and Andy Decker. King's fourth win came in the shot with a throw of 40 feet even.

Other winners for the Knights were VanHouten who won the 300 hurdles and triple jump, Amroski who won the 1600 and 3200, Eernisse who won the 400, Onoratti who won the high jump, Colin Shine who won the long jump and Adam Yaegle was the winning javelin thrower.

For the Lady Knights, Bizz Baran was the day's standout with victories in the 400 and 800. Baran's winning 400 time was 1:07.2 while the winning 800 time was 2:51.1. Ike's final win of the day came from the 1600 relay team of Taylor Talasky, Lacey Stanko, Julia Bauer and Baran.

"Typical Northwest Pennsylvania early-track-meet weather," said Eisenhower girls coach Mike Logue. "And for that, I thought (Bizz) Baran's times were very (good) for the 400 and 800. That (winning 4X400) relay team, Taylor Talasky got us off to a good start they kept trying to chip away, but we wouldn't let them get too close."

The Knights will return to action Thursday when they visit Franklin in a make-up meet.
