What to do

April 11, 2012
The Times Observer

Dear editor:

A day in Warren County, PA in one of the four seasonswhat to do? what to do??

Money is short--walk, bicycle or cross-country ski on the Bike/Hike trail and investigate the trees in the arboretum north of the State Hospital; find out that the Warren Public Library and the other libraries in communities around the County or not just book lenders anymore; play and cookout on one of more than a dozen parks and playgrounds in the City and environs; stop in to the Warren Co. Historical Society to do geneology research, look up pertinent photos, see a display honoring the Girl Scouts; sit and chat at a table in downtown Warren while people enjoy taking photos near the Northwest Savings fountain; play ball or jog at Betts Park or look at Warren atop Washington Park hill; middle school teens could spend time at Warren Area Student Union (WASU) socializing, getting homework help, organizing dresses for the Cinderella Project; Music in the Park compliments of Northwest and the Zavinskis; see a free exhibit at the Crary Art Gallery on Market Street; dress warmly for the Christmas Walk or bring a flag to the Fourth of July parade and fireworks.

Do you have funds for a couple gallons of gas? Chapman Dam, Audubon, Kinzua Dam, Jakes Rocks, Rimrock, Breeze Point Landing, Wilder Museum in Irvine; join a Boy Scout or Girl Scout troop or mentor a troop as an adult; get a YMCA membership; volunteer and get engaged at WGH, RSVP, ACA, ACC, VITA, WASU! Don't know what this alphabet soup is all about? Investigate and appreciate, but avoid negative comments against the beautiful area we live in which has much to offer.

If you want your kids and grandkids to stay in Warren County or visit more often-don't speak negatively or disparagingly of this place we call HOME.

Oh, by the wayVolunteer, volunteer, volunteer are the watchwords of those who never have the chance to be bored!

Karen Davis
