Youngsville High School senior Amber Fox was all over the box scores in the first week of the high school softball season. She was 4-for-4 with four runs and five RBI in a 17-0 win over Sheffield. She added nine strikeouts in a two-hit shutout pitching. She was 2-for-4 with a double and triple and two RBI in a 5-4 extra-inning loss to defending region champion Fairview, striking out nine more with two walks and five hits allowed in eight innings. Add eight more strikeouts to the stat sheet in her season debut, a 13-10 win over Eisenhower for an important Region 4 win. Fox is moving from shortstop, where she was a region all-star, to pitcher to make up for the loss of longtime pitcher Nicole Ciukaj, who graduated. This Lady Eagle is off to a flying start, and is the Times Observer Athlete of the Week, sponsored by McDonald's.
