College news

Warren Area High School graduate and Penn State Behrend sophomore men's track & field team member Cody Bupp competed for the Lions at the Washington & Jefferson Invitational on Saturday. Bupp's afternoon included a fifth-place 16.25 run in the 110-meter hurdles.

Bupp and the Lions return to action Saturday at the Carnegie Mellon Invitational.

Warren Area High School graduate and Penn State Behrend women's track & field team member Katie Spade competed for the Lady Lions at the Washington & Jefferson Invitational on Saturday. Spade and teammates placed third in the 4X400 relay with a run of 4:16.37.

Spade later placed fourth in the 1500-meter run in 5:03.33 and sixth in the 800-meter run with a time of 2:24.43.

Spade and the Lady Lions return to action Saturday at the Carnegie Mellon Invitational.

Warren Area High School graduate Brandon Schott was 7-for-10 with four runs scored and three RBI as the catcher for the University of Maryland - Eastern Shore on Saturday in a doubleheader sweep over Division I Coppin State in Baltimore, Md.

Jr. Legion tryouts

Post 135 Junior American Baseball League tryouts will be held at 4 p.m. Saturday at Old Legion Field in North Warren.

Weightlifting meet

Warren's Amy Fyock and Matt Pascuzzi both took first place in their respective divisions on March 10 at the Spring Beast of the Northeast weightlifting meet at Results Rehab and Fitness Center in Warren.

Fyock won the women's 117 Pounds and Under division and Pascuzzi the 181-Pound division with a deadlift of 450 pounds. The meet was held by Warren's Carl Seeker and hosted over 40 lifters. The next scheduled meet is the Summer Beast of the Northeast on Saturday, July 11.

Kane High School pole vaulter Patrick Anderson, a defending state champion, broke his own school record in the pole vault on Saturday, clearing 16 feet, two inches at Saturday's Altoona Iglo Invitational Track and Field Meet at Mansion Park in Altoona. He nearly made 16 feet, seven inches, which would have been the highest vault recorded in the history of the PIAA. His jump of 16-2 is the fifth best jump in the nation, according to PenntrackXC.
