Youngsville and Sheffield dodged the raindrops and thunderbolts just long enough to complete their county showdown Friday at Sheffield Area High School.

The Eagles were the winners of the contest, improving to 2-1 with a 17-0 thrashing of the Wolverines. Sheffield is now 1-1 after the loss.

The Eagles started scoring early in this one, plating two in the top of the first. Colleen Rex led off the game with a walk and stole second before scoring on an RBI single by Amber Fox. Fox soon raced home when Shelby Anderson was able to reach base on an error.

After being shut down in the second, Youngsville scored three more times in the third frame. Again, Rex led off with a walk and advanced on a single by Fox. Rex and Fox both scored on Sheffield errors and Katie Gustafson also chipped in an RBI single as the visitors stretched the advantage to 5-0.

The Lady Eagles really broke things open in the fourth inning, adding their last 12 runs to their tally.

All five of Youngsville's extra base hits came in the final inning. Fox had a two-run double and a two-run homer in the inning and Elise Dunn and Gustafson hit RBI triples. Hailey Gray chipped in an RBI double.
