Bowling news
Several youth bowlers from Warren County qualified for the Pepsi Youth Bowling State Championships scheduled for May 19-20 in Lancaster. Those bowlers qualified after the 2012 Pepsi District 1 Championships completed this past Saturday.
Sorted by age group, here are the county bowlers who will compete in state competition along with their town of residence:
11 & under girls: Ashlee VanGuilder, Warren; Mya Stoddard, Sheffield
11 & under boys: Blake Arnold, Warren; Cale Albaugh, Sheffield; Hunter Blymiller, Sheffield; Justin Rich, Warren
12 & over girls: Charleigh Smith, Sugar Grove; Lois Brown, Sheffield; Aspen Flinn, Irvine; Emily Grove, Sheffield
12 & over boys: Nic Confer, Sheffield; Chandler Cummings, Warren
Time change
The Warren at Bradford baseball game scheduled for Saturday will begin at noon rather than the originally slated starting time of 11 a.m.
Event change
Due to a busing issue, the East at Warren softball game scheduled for Thursday has been postponed. The game will be made up as part of a doubleheader in Erie on April 26.
College news
Warren Area High School graduate and Penn State Behrend men's track and field team member Cody Bupp competed for the Lions at the Bill Van Horne Invitational held Saturday in Wheeling, W.V..
Bupp was ninth in the 400-meter hurdles with a time of 58.89 seconds and teamed with teammates to finish seventh in the 4X400 relay with a time of 3:29.46.
Eisenhower High School graduate and Lions team member Alex Yaegle placed third in the javelin with a throw of 54.23 meters.
Bupp, Yaegle and the Lions return to action Saturday at the Washington & Jefferson Invitational.

Youngsville High School graduate and Waynesburg University senior pitcher Ben Oviatt allowed just four hits - all singles - while striking out five batters and walking one in the Yellowjackets' 12-0 victory over Thomas More on Sunday.
In five games this season, Oviatt is 5-0 with five complete games and two shutouts. Oviatt and the Yellowjackets (11-4) return to action Tuesday, visiting Saint Vincent for a doubleheader.
For his efforts, Oviatt was named President's Athletic Conference pitcher of the week for the second time this season. He won the honor after going 2-0 with a 1.93 ERA during two starts last week. In addition to the aforementioned win over Thomas More, Oviatt struck out four batters and walked none in a complete game 5-3 victory over Penn State Behrend.

Warren Area High School graduate Tyler Leichtenberger pitched all three days this weekend for Rochester Institute of Technology, which went 1-2 against Rensselaer in the Liberty League.
Leichtenberger picked up his third save of the season on Friday for 5-8 RIT, throwing a shutout inning in a 5-4 win.
On Saturday, Leichtenberger retired one batter as a specialist in a 5-4 loss and, on Sunday, he took the loss by allowing one earned run in 2/3rds of an inning in a 14-5 defeat.
Jr. Legion tryouts
Tryouts for the Warren Post 135 Junior American Legion baseball team will be held at 1 p.m. Sunday at Old Legion Field in North Warren. For more information, contact Jon Vincent at 757-8733.
