CASA Classic rosters set for Thursday

March 21, 2012
The Times Observer

The rosters have been released for the 7th Annual CASA Senior Basketball Classic being held on Thursday at Warren Area High School.

The girls game will be played at 6 p.m., and the boys' contest will follow at 7:30 p.m. Tickets at the door for this event are $5 for adults and $1 for students.

This is an inclusive community event with West Forest, East Forest, Tidioute Charter, Sheffield, Eisenhower, Youngsville, and Warren Area high schools participating. The idea behind the game itself is to showcase one last time high school senior basketball players in a laid-back game atmosphere.

The game supports the local CASA (Court Appointed Special Advocate) Association, a non-profit organization started in 2003 that serves abused and neglected children in Warren and Forest counties. CASA volunteers are trained citizens who are appointed by a judge to represent the best interests of these children in court cases.

The schedule of events includes player and coach introductions and the National Anthem before each game. Judge Maureen Skerda will perform an honorary tip-off before the girls game, and Judge Gregory Hammond before the boys'. In between games, the Dance Express Elite Company will perform.

The girls game includes "The Volunteers," made up of Youngsville coach Allison Kitchel and senior Amber Fox, Sheffield seniors Julianna Ely and Sara Hoden, and Warren seniors Kristin Hultquist, Emily Sherman and Kristie Reynolds. They will play "The Attorneys," made up of East Forest coach Kerry Wolbert and seniors Jenna Harriger, Nicole Kahle, Lauren Oliver and Morgan Simpson, West Forest seniors Brandi Bemis and Larissa Schwab, and Tidioute Charter (TCCS) seniors Lacy Wolford and Loralee Lindemuth.

The boys game includes "The Advocates," made up of TCCS coach Dave Manning and seniors Pat Haney and Kendrick Morrison, and Warren seniors Preston McMeans, Kory Thomas and Hank Morrison, and West Forest seniors Drew Sneeringer and Shaylor Bemis. They will play "The Judges," made up of Sheffield coach Todd Fitch and seniors Nick Bonavita, George Fitch, Mark Sprandle, Kalil Slaughter and Ike Nearing, Eisenhower seniors Josh Deppas and Joe Rutsky, and East Forest seniors Michael Snyder and Seth Toski.
