Dear editor:
So Commissioner John Bortz is in the "consideration phase" of the process regarding whether or not to impose a well fee on gas drillers?
Well, Governor Corbett received nearly a million dollars in campaign donations from the gas industry and I don't think it's a mere coincidence that Pennsylvania is the ONLY state in the Marcellus Shale region that imposes no uniform tax on Marcellus gas drilling.
The immediate negative consequences of the fracking process are well documented and include poisoned water wells, destruction of the infrastructure, a blighted ecosystem and even recent earthquakes recorded around Youngstown, Ohio attributed to capped deep frack water caverns.
Perhaps the commissioners are waiting to find out what kind of windfall donations they receive from the gas industry before they make their decision-then the decision to impose no fee will be a "slam dunk."
