You would think it would be easy to award the Athlete of the Week to a District 10 champion. Not necessarily. You see, it was a great week in Warren County last week. Senior Dylan Baker, en route to his fourth trip to the District 10 Class AA Wrestling Tournament, won his 100th match while at Eisenhower High School, finishing third at the Section 1-AA Tournament at Union City High School. Warren senior Preston McMeans also passed a milestone in a huge Region 7 win over Central Tech at Warren Area High School, scoring his 1,000th career varsity boys basketball point for the Dragons. He stood at 1,071 career points before Thursday's playoff game against Sharon. In a close race - and that's a good thing, D.J. Fehlman, atop podium, is the Times Observer Athlete of the Week, sponsored by McDonald's. He became the first freshman District 10 wrestling champion at Warren Area High School at Saturday's Class AAA Tournament at Central Tech High School. Fehlman also broke Warren's record for wins in a season by a freshman with 31. Trailing 4-0, Fehlman's takedown with five seconds left in the third period gave him a 6-4 win over two-time D-10 champion Paul Deitz in the championship match.
