Little League

Warren County Youth Baseball and Softball Association (WCYBSA) registration is online this year, through March 9, at www.wcybsa.org.

Tournament champions
This group of fifth and sixth-grade girls basketball players from Beaty compiled a 4-0 record and placed first in the Bradford Girls Youth Basketball League 6th Grade Tournament on Sunday. Several Warren Little Dragons and junior high wrestlers competed and placed at the 2012 Tim Edwards Memorial Tournament Saturday in Corry. Blake Ristau (13-14 year-old, 92 pounds) and Derek Reagle (13-14, 147) were second, Jimmy Kramer (11-12, 70) and Stephen Crone (13-14, 210) were third, Nick DeSimone (11-12, 115), Carter Borland (9-10, 150) and Jacob Fankhouser (13-14, 77) were all fourth and Alex Anderson (9-10, 65) was fifth.

Meeting

The Friends of Warren Basketball will be holding a meeting at 7 p.m. Wednesday in the Warren Area High School cafeteria. All those wishing to attend are encouraged to do so.

College news

Warren Area High School graduate and Messiah College women's swim team member Laura Penwell had an outstanding day for the her team at the Middle Atlantic Conference Championships this past weekend in Wilkes Barre. In all, Penwell, a freshman, set or helped set five school records in five different events.

To start, Penwell and teammates finished third in the 200-yard free relay with a time of 1:40.70. The time set a new Messiah record. Later, Penwell and teammates set a new school record in the 400-yard medley relay, finishing fourth with a swim of 4:08.39.

Penwell's third school record of the weekend came on the second day of action as she and teammates finished fourth in the 200-yard medley relay with a swim of 1:52.63. Individually, Penwell set another school record in the 100 fly, besting her own previous mark with a fifth-place swim of 1:01.52. Penwell's previous best in the event was a 1:01.95. Penwell finished Saturday with a ninth-place finish in the 100 back and yet another school record in the 800-yard free relay with a swim of 8:11.22.

Penwell and the rest of her Falcons teammates finished fifth overall in the women's standings at the three-day event.

Playoff tickets

Tickets for Friday's District 10 Class A Quarterfinal boys playoff game between Eisenhower and VisionQuest, scheduled for 6:30 p.m. at Meadville High School, will be on sale in the main office of the high school from 8:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. Wednesday through Friday. All tickets are $5.
