The Times Observer

Playoff brackets were released on Sunday for both the District 9 and District 10 boys and girls basketball playoffs. Among Warren County teams, Warren's boys and girls teams, the Eisenhower boys and Sheffield boys will compete in the first round beginning Wednesday through Saturday.

Sheffield's boys basketball team will host Venango Central Catholic in the District 9 Class A playoffs at 7 p.m. Wednesday at Sheffield High School. Sheffield (13-9) is the No. 8 seed in the 11-team Class A playoffs, and Venango Catholic No. 9 with the same overall record. The winner will take on Allegheny Mountain League champ Ridgway (22-1) on Friday at Ridgway.

On Thursday, Warren's boys basketball team will play Sharon in the District 10 Class AAA playoffs at 6:30 p.m. at Edinboro's McComb Fieldhouse.

The Dragons are 16-5 overall with a non-region game left on Monday against Oil City at Warren Area High School. Sharon finishes the regular season at 14-8 overall and is part of the Region 6 logjam that saw five teams go 11-5 in the region. Grove City was the region champ at 12-4, with Franklin, Meadville, Hickory and Sharon all 11-5 in the region.

Despite finishing 16-6 overall, and two games better than Sharon by overall record, Meadville will play in a play-in game on Tuesday against Girard (14-8), as well as Franklin -three games better at 17-5 - against HarborCreek (10-12). That makes 10 Class AAA teams involved beginning Tuesday. The first tiebreaker was head-to-head within the region.

On Friday, Eisenhower's boys basketball team (13-9) opens the six-team District 10 Class A playoffs against VisionQuest (11-8) at 6:30 p.m. at Meadville High School.

On Saturday, Warren's girls basketball team (15-7 overall and in fourth place in Region 6) will play co-Region 5 champion Hickory (20-2) in the District 10 Class AAA playoffs at 5:30 p.m. at Kennedy Catholic High School. Hickory is top seed via a coin flip over Franklin.
