The Sheffield wrestling team held off the Brockway Rovers, 36-33, in a Senior Night showdown Wednesday at Sheffield Area High School.
Things started off well for the Wolverines who got forfeit wins from Collin Maines (145 pounds) and Steve Gregerson (152 pounds) to go on top, 12-0. After a pair of pins by Brockway wrestlers, Sheffield went back on top when 182-pounder Jeff Castro received a forfeit.
The Wolverines won their first bout of the night on the mat at 195 pounds where Jonah Coleman delivered a 5-0 shutout decision win over Brockway's Hunter Richardson. A Rovers pin at 220 pounds made it 21-18, but Sheffield heavyweight Myers Chea stepped up and delivered a first-period pin to extend the Wolverines lead to 27-18.
The six points earned by Ricky Prosen's forfeit win at 113 pounds and the decision win picked up by Brandon Johnston at 120 pounds were enough to allow the Wolverines to hold on down the stretch. Brockway won the last three matches of the bout, but Sheffield walked away a 36-33 winner.
The Wolverines are scheduled to travel to Clarion on Tuesday.
