Eisenhower kept pace in the race for the Region 3 boys basketball title with a 46-37 victory over Conneaut Lake Tuesday at Eisenhower High School.
While the win was important, Eisenhower coach Dave Allenson wasn't entirely pleased with the effort on the defensive end. The Knights built a 27-9 halftime lead by limiting the Indians to just two second quarter points. The visitors then erupted for 16 points in the third, closing to within single digits at a couple of different points.
"We were making one pass and throwing up a shot on offense and they were running down the court and scoring when we were on defense," Allenson said of Conneaut Lake's second half run. "It was as simple as that."
A balanced Ike scoring attack was led by the 10 points of Aaron Lundmark and Colin Shine. Josh Deppas added eight points and Ryan Williams and Joe Rutsky had six points each.
The Knights (11-7, 3-2 Region 3) jump back out of region play Wednesday, visting Otto Eldred.
Conneaut Lake won the junior varsity game, 42-38. Ike was paced by the 12 points of Kyle Hunt.
