Tidioute Charter probably wishes it could play Warren County Christian School each time out.
After starting the season 0-10, the Lady Bulldogs defeated WCCS for the second time in six days Monday, besting the Lady Lions 26-25 at TCCS.
Lacy Wolford and Loralee Lindemuth made for a nice one-two punch early in the game as the hosts build a five-point lead after a quarter and took an 11-8 lead into the locker room. The lead was extended to five after the third quarter and the lead was as many as eight points early in the final stanza.
"We had a nice lead in the last quarter, but it got kind of frustrating," said TCCS coach Ted Nuttall. "We had to hang on at the end."
Nuttall said that, while WCCS never took the lead in the fourth quarter, it took a couple of key free throws by Wolford to keep it that way.
Wolford scored a game-high 14 points for the winners. Lindemuth scored five points and blocked nine shots and Robbi Kitelinger finished with four points. Allyssa Kerr led WCCS (4-8) with nine points. Rachel Wilkins added six points and Jessica Lauffenburger chipped in five.
Christina Girard had nine rebounds for WCCS, Kerr eight rebounds, four blocks and four steals, and Kim Drake seven rebounds and four assists.
"It was really a scrappy, scrappy game," said WCCS coach Rae Parmeter. "If we would have been hitting on all cylinders coming out of the gate, it would have been a different story. This is a far cry from the team I took over last year. I'm so proud of how far they've come."
TCCS (2-11) nexts hosts Erie First Christian on Thursday while WCCS doesn't play another varsity game until the New Penn Christian Conference Tournament begins next week.
