Time change

The Brockway at Sheffield junior high boys basketball game scheduled for Thursday has been moved up to a 3 p.m. start from it's original 4 p.m. start time.

Senior swimmer recognized
Warren Area High School senior Chrissy Garris was recognized as the only senior swimmer for the Warren County YMCA Dolphins swim team at the Dolphins’ final home meet and senior recognition on Saturday against Eastside at the YMCA. At right is YMCA swim team coach Chris Snyder presenting Garris with flowers and balloons.

Several Warren Area youth wrestlers competed and placed at the 2nd Annual Union City Ring of Fire Tournament on Saturday. Jim Kramer posted a first-place finish for the team in the U12, 70-pound weight class. Finishing second for the Little Dragons were Carter Borland (U10, heavyweight) and Owen Balas (U12, 80 pounds).

Lucas Douvlos (U6, 45 pounds), Kramer (U10, 70 pounds) and Derek Reagle (U14, 147 pounds) were all third and Beau Paris (U12, 75 pounds) and Austyn Cummings (U12, 125 pounds) were fourth.

Wrestling rankings

Following the Fred Bell Tournament in Grove City this weekend, Warren freshman D.J. Fehlman (25-4) remains the top-ranked 120-pounder in the District 10 Class AAA rankings by Erie's Rob Coleman at d10wrestling.com. In addition, teammate Drew Williams is ranked third at 138 pounds. Fehlman is the fourth rated 120-pounder in the Northwest Region, just behind Altoona freshman D.J. Hollingshead, who is third. Two seniors are rated first and second.

College news

Sheffield High School graduate Tessa Vargas scored 29 points as a senior for Penn State DuBois' women's basketball team in a 93-91 overtime win over visiting Central Penn College.

The high-scoring game saw eight lead changes in the final ten minutes of regulation, and five in overtime. PS DuBois is 12-4 overall and 7-1 in the Penn State University Athletic Conference. The Lady Lions host PSU Beaver at 6 p.m. Tuesday.
