PMEA Event

The Pennsylvania Music Educators Association will be holding their District Choral Event in Warren County this year at the Warren Area High School. The event will be held from Jan. 26 through Jan. 28. The four county high schools are co-hosting the event. The guest conductor this year will be Dr. Douglas Browne of Grove City College and he will lead the 200 voice chorus in a public concert at Warren Area High School Saturday at 1:00 p.m. For ticket information, you can contact any of our Warren County High School offices.

Congratulations to our Eisenhower High School singers who have been selected to participate in PMEA District Chorus. They include Ricky Zortman, Michael Spencer, Mollie Marsh, Andrew Childs, Lacy Rowley, and Danielle Oaks.

300 Club Drawing

Feb. 18, the EMHS Band Boosters will host a 300 Club drawing at the Frewsburg, N.Y. American Legion. Doors open at 5 p.m. Tickets are on sale for $10 and one ticket admits 2 people. A light dinner will be served. If anyone would like to purchase tickets, call Kathy Mizak at 757-8766.

Benefit Dinner

Raymond Shaffer passed away on Dec. 28, 2011 at his home with his loving wife Sharon Shaffer and his son Mark Shaffer by his side. The Chandlers Valley United Methodist church on Jackson Run Road will be hosting a benefit dinner for the family. The church is located on Jackson Run Road between Warren and Sugar Grove. The dinner will take place Saturday from 4 p.m.-7 p.m. Proceeds from this dinner will help pay for any medical bills and funeral costs. If you would like to donate but can't make the dinner, you can send any donations to the WACOPSCE Credit Union in Warren under Mark Shaffer's account.

Food pantry

The Sugar Grove Free Methodist Church located at 210 Jamestown Street is the host site for the Northern part of Warren County for this program. Second Harvest is the major supplier of food to charitable agencies throughout Northwestern Pennsylvania.

They obtain products from the organization's warehouse and distribute them to individuals and families facing hard times in 11 counties. The Second Harvest Mobile Food Pantry will hold their next food distribution day on Saturday.

Dominican VISA trip

On Sunday the Sugar Grove Free Methodist Church will hold a breakfast between services from 10 a.m. 11 a.m. All proceeds from the breakfast will go toward sending Josh Erizer to the Dominican Republic in June. The goal is to raise $1,000 on this day. Josh recently returned from a week long VISA trip to the Dominican Republic with a group from the church and he has been invited to return. If you would like more information or would like to make a donation to the trip, you can contact the church office at 489-3105.

Zumba

Wendy Carrington, a certified Zumba instructor, is offering classes in the Sugar Grove area. Classes will be held Mondays and Wednesdays at the Sugar Grove Elementary School from 3:45-4:30 p.m. and at the Lander United Methodist Church on Saturdays at 8 a.m. Zumba is a Latin inspired dance fitness class. If you have any questions, you can call Wendy at 563-1690. This next Zumba class has just started and will run for 6 weeks through February 22nd.

Picnic in February

Throughout the month the community churches provide lunches. A special for February, the Thursday luncheon at the United Methodist Church in Sugar Grove will be a summertime picnic with hot dogs, salads and summertime fixings. Everyone is invited to attend.

The first Friday of each month lunch is provided at the Mission Covenant Church. The 2nd Thursday lunch is provided at the Sugar Grove United Methodist Church. The third Wednesday lunch is provided at the Hessel Valley Lutheran Church. All lunches begin at 11:30 a.m. and everyone is welcome to attend.

District Schedule

Monday, Feb. 6, will be the make up day with class in session for the snow day used on Jan. 3. Monday, Feb. 20, there will also be no classes in session.

SGES Kindergarten

Registration

The Sugar Grove Elementary School will hold their Kindergarten registration day on Wednesday, Feb. 15, from 8:30 a.m. 10:45 a.m. and then in the afternoon from 1 p.m. until 2:30 p.m. For more information or to obtain a registration packet please stop by the school office.
