Warren Area High School graduate and Case Western Reserve senior women's swim team member Jessica Nuhfer competed for the Lady Spartans in a 154-139 victory over Allegheny College on Saturday.
Nuhfer had three first-place finishes on the afternoon, including relay wins in the 400 medley relay and 200 free relay and an individual first in the 100 free. The 400 medley relay winning time was 4:05.39, the 200 free relay time was 1:41.68 and the 100 free time was 55.74. Nuhfer finished the day with a second-place swim of 25.20 in the 50 free.

Sheffield Area High School graduate and Penn State DuBois senior women's basketball player Tessa Vargas scored 22 points, leading the Lions to a 70-59 victory over Penn State-Greater Allegheny on Wednesday. Vargas hit three three-pointers and was nine of 10 from the charity stripe in the win.
D-10 mat
Three Warren Dragons wrestlers are included in Rob Coleman's latest District 10 Class AAA wrestling rankings released on Sunday. Freshman D.J. Fehlman is the district's top ranked wrestler at 120 pounds. In addition, Fehlman is ranked fourth in the PIAA Class AAA Northwest Region.
Also ranked in D-10 for Warren are Drew Williams - third at 138 pounds and Chris McNeal - third at 182 pounds.
Archery news
Several Warren County archers competed and placed in the top ten of their respective divisions at the annual International Bowhunting Organization's Indoor World 3-D Championships held January 20-22 in Cleveland, Ohio.
Russell's Audrey Zimmerman placed first in the Female Bowhunter Open class with a score of 389. Warren's Lauffenburger was second in the Master Class Bowhunter class with a score of 382.
Russell's Jim Ingerson was third in the Male Bowhunter Release class with a score of 398, Russell's Don Mineweaser was fourth in the Male Bowhunter Open class with a score of 399, Youngsville's Jim Huff was seventh in the Male Bowhunter Open class with a score of 392 and Warren's Craig Johnson was eighth in the Male Senior Release class with a score of 390.
Youth mat
Several Warren wrestlers competed and placed at the Sheffield Youth Wrestling Tournament held Saturday at Sheffield High School. Gabe Smead (11-12 year-old, 125 pounds) and Derek Reagle (13-14, 167) were first for Warren while Jake Engstrom (11-12, 85) was second.
Nick Willetts (13-14, 140) and Stephen Crone (13-14, 210) were third and Brett Cummings (13-14, 117) and Gabe Irvine (13-14, 140) claimed fourth for the Dragons.
Correction
Cierra Ohl had four points in the Youngsville junior varsity girls basketball team's 46-45 loss vs. Linesville on Monday. Ohl was inadvertently omitted from the box score published in Tuesday's newspaper, thus the Youngsville scoring did not add up.
AAU tryouts
There will be a tryout for Jamestown Elite Girls AAU basketball on Jan. 29 from 5 to 6:30 p.m. at Jefferson Middle School.
Girls in grades 3-12 are welcome. There is a $15 tryout fee and registration will begin at 4:30 p.m.
Informational packets and schedules will be passed out at registration.
Last season Jamestown Elite girls teams won 16 tournament championships, including winning at Penn State, Richmond Virginia and Syracuse.
This will also be a time for boys makeups for those who couldn't make the previous tryout. The boys time is the same, also at Jefferson.
