Youth mat

Several members of the Warren Little Dragons wrestling team competed and placed at the 4th Annual Tom "Bob" Fox Memorial Wrestling Tournament this past weekend in Saint Marys.

Finishing second for the Dragons were Alex Anderson (U-10, 70 pounds), Beau Paris (U-12, 75 pounds), Derek Knapp (U-12, 90 pounds) and Austyn Cummings (U-12, 120 pounds).

Free throw winners
The Warren Knights of Columbus held a basketball free throw competition Sunday at the Warren County YMCA. The winners will compete in a regional competition at the Warren County YMCA on Sunday, January 29. Winners included, from left, Evan Suppa, 13, Griffin Suppa, 11, Nathan Eadie, 10, Max Davis, 12 and Gracie Wood, 10. In the back row are Jim Pierce, Knights of Columbus Grand Knight and Mark Bauer, Knights of Columbus Youth Director.

Third-place finishes went to Landon Douvlos (U-8, 65 pounds), Billy Anderson (U-8, 90 pounds), Owen Balas (U-12, 80 pounds) and Austin Sweeney (U-12, 85 pounds).

Fourth-place finishes went to John Fankhouser (U-10, 80 pounds) and Nolan Nudd (U-10, 110 pounds).

Jr. high hoops

The Sheffield junior high boys basketball teams went 4-3 in eight recent junior high boys basketball games.

In a 'B' game against Beaty, Sheffield dropped a 46-13 decision. Austin Simmer led Sheffield with seven points, Tanner Leichtenberger added four and Cody Benjamin scored two. Noah Becker led Beaty with nine points, Tristan Davis added eight points, Jason Waterfield had seven points, Dominic Funari had six points, Seth Baldensperger four points, Reed Swanson and James Sturdevant three points and Tyler Gillotti, Curtis Lasecki and Derick Nowacki two points each.

Against Tidioute Charter, Sheffield's 'A' team was a 33-9 winner. Colton Thompson scored eight points, Jake Johnson six, Emmitt Murphy four, Dan Rulander three and Simmer, Cameron Retterer, Nick Kipp, Logan Connolly, Jim Vile and Adam Higby two points each. TCCS got three points from Eckman, two each from Marsh and Peterson and one apiece from Harmon and McAfoos. No first names were provided for TCCS.

The Wolverines swept a pair of games from Youngsville, winning the 'A' game, 43-30. Higby led Sheffield with 12 points, Johnson added eight, Thompson six, Vile, Connolly and Kipp four each, Benjamin and Alex Curtis two points each and Rulander one. Youngsville's Joey Chuzie scored 17 points, Travis McLaughlin had eight, Wyatt Rugar two and Tanner Humphrey two each and Jonathan Burrows one.

In the 'B' game, Sheffield was a 23-16 winner. Retterer led the winners with seven points, Benjamin scored four and Drew Higby, Leichtenberger, Roger Dunham, Murphy, Tyler Hansen and Rulander all scored two points. Youngsville got seven points from Rugar, three from McLaughlin, two from Chuzie and Quinn Wachter and one from Kyler Bosko.

Sheffield defeated East Forest in an 'A' game, 39-25. Daniel Pierson and Johnson led the way with six points, Benjamin had five, Vile and Dunham four each and Murphy, Retterer, Leichtenberger, Kipp, Curtis, Rulander and Connolly all scored two points.

Lastly, Kane defeated Sheffield in back-to-back games. The Wolves won the 'A' game, 32-23. Johnson led Sheffield with seven points, Vile added five, Adam Higby and Pierson four each and Curtis, Connolly and Thompson scored two each.

In the 'B' game, Sheffield was defeated, 37-15. Murphy led the way with six points, Rulander scored three and Simmer, Dunham and Leichtenberger all finished with two points.

Beaty White earned a 35-28 victory over Walnut Creek on Monday. Noah Becker scored 16 points, Tristan Davis added eight points, Jason Waterfield six points and Dominic Funari five points.

Coaches clinic

The Kinzua Soccer Club will be hosting a free soccer coaching clinic conducted by Paul Halford, director of coaching and player development for PA West Soccer, from 1 to 4 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 5, at the Grace United Methodist Church in Warren. The clinic will cover coaching techniques for specific age groups as well as a participative skills practice.

College news

Warren Area High School graduate and California University of Pennsylvania sophomore Kelsey Nuhfer competed for the Lady Vulcans swim team in a 72-40 victory over West Virginia Wesleyan and a 70-23 victory over Lake Erie College on Saturday.

Nuhfer and teammates set the pool record in the 200 free relay, touching the wall in a time of 1:37.69. Nuhfer also had an exhibition swim of 25.19 in the 50 free and a strong second-place swim in the 100 free. Nuhfer's 100 free time was 55.26 seconds.

Rescheduled

The Warren at Erie East boys and girls swim meet postponed on January 19 has been rescheduled for 6 p.m., Tuesday, February 7, at East High School. The Dragons will swim against Strong Vincent that same evening.

The Vincent meet was originally scheduled for Thursday, February 9, but will held on February 7 instead.

The Warren at Harbor Creek boys basketball game postponed twice due to weather will be made up at 6 p.m. Monday, February 6, at Harbor Creek High School.
