Youngsville baseball

There will be a parents and players meeting for those participating in Youngsville High School baseball in the spring at 6 p.m. Tuesday at the high school. Parents/players are asked to bring tickets and ticket money to the meeting.

Soccer champs

An area Kinzua U19 boys soccer team won the nine-team Mountain Classic indoor soccer tournament at the University of Saint Francis in Loretto this weekend.

The area team went 4-0 and outscored opponents 15-0. Corry's Andy Hajec had eight goals and two assists, and Warren's Christian Harrington three goals and eight assists. Sean Roney added three goals and one assist, Will Cole one goal and one assist, Tyler Mealy two assists, and Brad Simmons one assist. Simmons led an excellent defensive effort, and Dan Maeder was the shutout goalie throughout.

College news

Sheffield High School graduate Tessa Vargas scored 35 points over two Penn State University Athletic Conference wins this weekend for Penn State DuBois. Vargas scored 18 points, including three 3-pointers, in a 67-64 win over Penn State Wilkes-Barre on Friday. She added 17 points, including three 3's, in a last-second 55-54 win on Saturday over Penn State Hazletine. Teammate Lynnie Schirmer hit a game-winning 3-pointer to give PS DuBois a 10-4 overall and 6-1 conference record.
