Youth hockey

The Jamestown Lakers Bantam hockey team won its division of the Jamestown Savings Bank Ice Arena Hockey Tournament last weekend.

The Lakers' weekend actually got off to a rough start after a 4-0 loss to the Cleveland Skating Chargers in round robin play on Saturday.

Hoop shoot winners
The Warren Elks Lodge No. 223 held its annual Hoop Shoot competition this past Sunday at the Warren County YMCA. The winners will compete in district competition in Titusville on Saturday, Jan. 28. Winners include, from left, Dominick Funari, Griffin Suppa, Tyler Gustafson, Morgan Munksgard and Rachel Wilson.

Jamestown came alive in its next two games, defeating the Cleveland Panthers, 9-1, and the Perrington Blades, 6-3. Against Cleveland, Nolan Ditcher scored four goals and Trevor Dykstra, Matt Elia, Griffin Noon, Jake Tota and Mitchell Dorunda all scored one goal. Dorunda had three assists, Michael Mammoser had two and Noon, Graham Josephson and Nick Brooker had one assist each. Ben Richard was the winning goalkeeper.

Against Perrington, Ditcher scored three goals, Josephson had two and Brooker one. Brooker added three assists and Noon, Josephson and Jacob Zwieg had one each. Richard was again the winning goalkeeper.

In the championship, Jamestown defeated the Cleveland Skating Chargers, 6-5, in a double overtime thriller. Dorunda and Mammoser scored two goals each with Mammoser providing an unassisted goal in the second overtime to secure the championship. Ditcher and Noon also scored goals and Jamestown got two assists from Josephson and one each from Zwieg, Noon, Dorunda, Brooker, Mammoser and Tristen Myers. Richard won his third game in goal for the weekend.

Rescheduled

The Sheffield at DuBois Central Catholic boys basketball game scheduled for Friday was postponed. The game will be made up Friday, February, 10. Junior varsity action will begin at 6 p.m. with varsity to follow at DuBois Central Catholic High School.

The DuBois Central Catholic at Sheffield girls basketball game scheduled for Friday was postponed. The game will be made up Monday, February 6. Junior varsity action will begin at 6 p.m. with varsity to follow at Sheffield Area High School.

The Youngsville at Oil City girls basketball game postponed on Thursday has been rescheduled for Monday, January 30, at Oil City Area High School. Junior varsity action will begin at 6 p.m. with varsity to follow.

The Beaty at Eisenhower seventh and eighth-grade boys basketball games postponed on Thursday have been rescheduled for Saturday, January 28. The eighth-grade game will begin at 9:45 a.m. with the seventh-grade game to follow.

Postponed

The Saint Marys at Warren freshmen boys basketball game scheduled for 11 a.m. Saturday at Warren Area High School has been postponed. No make-up date has been announced. In addition, both the seventh and eighth-grade boys basketball games against Saint Marys that were scheduled to be held at Beaty-Warren Middle School have been postponed. No make-up dates have been announced for any of those events.

College news

Warren Area High School graduate and Pitt-Bradford senior women's basketball player Hollie Rapp recorded a double-double with 19 points and 11 rebounds for the Lady Panthers during a 73-56 victory over D'Youville on Thursday. Rapp and the Lady Panthers (7-10) return to the court Saturday at Franciscan.

Warren Area High School graduate and Pitt-Bradford freshman senior men's basketball player Tyler Fantaskey scored 10 points for the Panthers during a 92-84 victory over D'Youville on Thursday. Fantaskey and the Panthers (7-9) return to action Saturday at Franciscan.

Correction

Warren's boys basketball team has won two straight and looks for its third straight Region 7 win at Girard on Saturday.
