Youngsville had its first lead of the year going into halftime on Friday night against Saegertown at home.

It wouldn't last long; the Panthers scored 28 points in the third quarter on their way to a decisive 77-45 victory.

The Eagles got off to a rough start from the opening horn, but were able to rally in the second quarter.

Youngsville’s Tom Chapman attempts a block against Saegertown Friday night at Youngsville High School, with teammates Broc Horn, middle, and Collin Lehnen, right.

"Saegertown started the game 11-2," said Youngsville coach Ray Neidrick, whose Eagles are 0-12. "We hit a bunch of shots in a row and kept the momentum through the whole first half.

The Eagles played an excellent first half en route to a 28-25 lead.

All the confidence that the Eagles built in the second quarter quickly evaporated in the third.

After a Saegertown score, Youngsville took the ball out of bounds and threw it into the stands. On the ensuing Saegertown inbounds, an Eagle defender got turned around, leaving a wide-open Panther for a 3-pointer. This gave Saegertown a three-point lead with 5:45 left in the quarter and the Panthers never looked back.

Turnovers plagued Youngsville in the second half. The Eagles had trouble dealing with the Saegertown press.

Foul trouble also cost the Eagles - three players fouled out of the game in the third stanza. The home crowd was upset with the officiating; a Youngsville fan was ejected from the stands in the third quarter.

"In the third, we lost a couple players and we were a little razzled by the press," said Neidrick. "We had to take a few time outs to settle down. The rest of the game was all foul trouble. Going 7-for-25 from the line killed us."

The substitutes got a chance to play in the fourth. The fouling continued until the final seconds. Saegertown attempted 32 free throws on the game to Youngsville's 25.

Broc Horn was the high scorer for Youngsville with 16 points.
