Trevor Spicer, bottom, knew he had to win the match for Eisenhower High School to secure the wrestling victory over county-rival Youngsville last Wednesday at Eisenhower High School. Admittedly nervous, the Ike sophomore didn't show it; either did Youngsville senior Sage Sivak, top - Spicer's 182-pound opponent. Sivak had been sick that week, but put up a fight also worthy of a win. In front of a jam-packed crowd, both wrestlers were on the attack from the onset. Sivak led 5-4 after one period. Spicer led 10-9 after the second period. In the final minute of the match, Sivak's reversal tied the score at 12-12. Spicer's reversal in the final seconds of the match gave him a 15-12 decision and secured a 34-33 win for Eisenhower. "That's a pressure situation for any kid, let alone a sophomore," said Eisenhower coach Kris Black. "But that's what it's all about." Spicer - 18-3 on the season and second at Saturday's Falconer Tournament - is the Times Observer Athlete of the Week, sponsored by McDonald's. An honorable mention to Sivak, courageous in his effort.
