Belt promotions
Several members of Johnson’s Black Belt Academy were recently promoted to their respective Black Belt ranks by owner Rick Johnson. Points winners
Warren’s Riverside Raceway awarded certificates for the top finishers in its 2011 radio control racing fall points series on Wednesday, January 4. Racers competed over a 10-week period and points were awarded based on finishing position in their best eight of 10 weeks. Awarded certificates were, front row from left, Clark Thomas, Charlie Morris, Keisha Mack, Zach Tucher, Kegan Mack, Mitchell Hoffman, Savannah Gibson and Mark Johnson. Freshmen hoops
The Warren freshmen boys basketball team dropped to 6-4 on the season after a 59-41 loss to East Thursday at Warren Area High School. Scott Vasilisin led the Dragons with 12 points in defeat. Warren will host Saint Marys on Saturday. Tip-off is scheduled for 11 a.m.
Gymnastics
Russell's Jesse Valone and Columbus' Cheyenne Mora competed for Stroup's Shooting Stars Gymnastics at the 2012 Graffiti Invitational at the Niagara Falls Convention Center. Valone, 14, competed in the Prep-Opt Division and was fifth in the beam with an 8.15, seventh in the vault with an 8.00, seventh in the floor with an 8.00, seventh in the all-around with a 31.15 and eighth in the bars with a 7.00. Mora, 14, competed in the Prep-Opt Division and was second in the vault with an 8.60, fifth in the floor with an 8.20, sixth in the all-around with a 31.30, seventh in the bars with a 7.20 and eighth in the beam with a 7.30.
