Congratulations to the EMHS choral department and the students who have been selected to attend this year’s PMEA District Chorus event at WAHS. Students from EMHS are Ricky Zortman, Michael Spencer, Mollie Marsh, Andrew Childs, Lacy Rowley, and Danielle Oaks.

The Pennsylvania Music Educators Association will be holding its District Choral event this year at Warren Area High School on Jan. 25-28.

The four county high schools are co-hosting the event. Guest conductor will be Dr. Douglas Browne of Grove City College and he will lead the 200-voice chorus in a public concert at Warren Area High School next Saturday, Jan. 28 at 1: p.m.

For ticket information, contact any Warren County high school office.

Representing Eisenhower High School are Ricky Zortman, Michael Spencer, Mollie Marsh, Andrew Childs, Lacy Rowley, and Danielle Oaks.

300 Club Drawing

On Feb. 18 the EMHS Band Boosters are hosting a 300 Club drawing at the Frewsburg Legion. Doors open at 5 p.m. Tickets are on sale for $10 and one ticket admits two people. A light dinner will be served.

Benefit Dinner

Raymond Shaffer passed away on Dec. 28, 2011 at his home with his wife Sharon Shaffer and his son Mark Shaffer by his side.

The Chandlers Valley United Methodist Church on Jackson Run Road will be hosting a benefit dinner for the family. The church is located on Jackson Run Road between Warren and Sugar Grove. The dinner will take place on Jan. 28 from 4 to 7 p.m. Proceeds from this dinner will help pay for any medical bills and funeral cost.

If you would like to donate but can't make the dinner, you can send any donations to the WACOPSCE Credit Union in Warren under Mark Shaffer's account.

UMC Soup Cook-off

On Sunday, Jan. 15,the United Methodist Church warmed up its Education Building with a church soup cook-off. Members were asked to bring their favorite soup and recipe. People gathered for a hot soup meal and the judges tasted each of the entries.

Winners for the evening were: 1st place Lynn Allen with her Sausage Soup, 2nd place went to Sandy Brown for her Cabbage with Sausage Soup and 3rd place went to Kristy Waite for her Cheesy Potato Soup.

Second Harvest

Food Pantry

The Sugar Grove Free Methodist Church, located at 210 Jamestown St., is the host site for the northern part of Warren County for this program. Second Harvest is the major supplier of food to charitable agencies throughout northwestern Pennsylvania. They obtain products from the organization's warehouse and distribute them to individuals and families facing hard times in 11 counties.

The Second Harvest Mobile Food Pantry will hold its next food distribution day on Saturday, Jan. 28.

Dominican VISA trip

On Sunday, Jan. 29, the Sugar Grove Free Methodist Church will hold a breakfast between services from 10 to 11 a.m.; all proceeds from the breakfast will go toward sending Josh Erizer to the Dominican Republic in June. The goal is to raise $1,000 on this day.

Josh recently returned from a week-long VISA trip to the Dominican with a group from the church and he has been invited to return. If you would like more information or would like to make a donation to the trip, contact the church office at 489-3105.

Picnic in February

Throughout the month the community churches provide lunches. Special for February the Thursday luncheon at the United Methodist Church in Sugar Grove will be a summertime picnic with hot dogs, salads and summertime fixings. Everyone is invited to attend.

The first Friday of each month lunch is provided at the Mission Covenant Church. The second Thursday lunch is provided at the Sugar Grove United Methodist Church. The third Wednesday lunch is provided at the Hessel Valley Lutheran Church. All lunches begin at 11:30 a.m. and everyone is welcome to attend.

Stamping out

the Winter Blues

Due to the overwhelming response of the crafters in the Sugar Grove area, the library will be offering a monthly stamping class. A Feb. 13 class is tentatively set. The cost of the class will be $4 per card. Call the Sugar Grove Free Library at 489-7872 to reserve your seat for this class.

District Schedule

Thursday and Friday, Jan. 26-27 are professional development days for staff only and there will be no classes scheduled for students. Monday, Feb. 6 will be the make-up day with class in session for the snow day used on Jan. 3. Monday, Feb. 20th there will also be no classes in session.

SGES Kindergarten

Registration

The Sugar Grove Elementary School will hold its kindergarten registration day on Wednesday, Feb. 15 from 8:30 to 10:45 a.m. and then in the afternoon from 1 to 2:30 p.m.
