Warren's girls basketball team withstood four first quarter three-pointers and shook off the rust from a 12-day layoff to pick up a 46-39 Region 6 win over Harbor Creek Monday at Warren Area High School.
"We had 12 days off and it showed (in the first quarter)," said Warren coach Lisa Ruhlman. "The girls stuck with it and pulled it off."
The well-rested Dragons (6-1, 1-0 Region 6) jumped out to an early 8-2 lead, but the Huskies hit three consecutive three-pointers to take an 11-8 lead. Emily Sherman was just inside the line with a jump shot on Warren's next possession, pulling the Dragons within one at 11-10. Both teams would trade baskets before the Huskies connected on their fourth 3-pointer to take an 18-12 lead. Sherman missed a shot, but was able to get her own rebound and put the ball off the glass as the horn sounded to cut the lead to 18-14 at the end of the first quarter. Sadie Zielinski had all four three-pointers for the Huskies.

"Our game plan was to push the ball (and try to wear them out)," Ruhlman said.
Both teams ran a more ball control offense in the fourth quarter with the Dragons able to extend their lead to 10 midway through the period. Harbor Creek hit its fifth three-pointer of the game to cut the lead to seven, 46-39, with just under two minutes to play, but that would complete the game's scoring.
Jaimie Eaton finished with 12 points, eight of them in the second half. Sabrina Anderson, shutout in the first half, had eight points to go with her 11 rebounds. Kristen Hultquist added six points, eight rebounds and three blocks and Sherman also finished with 12 markers to go along with five assists and three steals.
The Lady Dragons will host North East Thursday in what Ruhlman called a "big game."
Amy Castagnino had nine points and Meghan Loutzenhiser finished with seven points as the junior varsity team dropped a 33-26 decision.

Youngsville 39, Conneaut Lake 35
CONNEAUT LAKE - Four in a row.
The resurgent Youngsville Lady Eagles shook off a seven-point fourth quarter deficit, stunning Conneaut Lake 39-35 to record the team's fourth consecutive victory.
With the win, Youngsville is now 6-4 on the season, matching the team's total number of victories in all of 2010-11.
This one wasn't easy.
The Lady Eagles fell behind by six points at the half and trailed by seven as the fourth quarter got underway. However, Youngsville was able to turn up the heat in the fourth quarter and wouldn't be denied.
"We just started playing better defense in the fourth quarter," said Youngsville coach Allison Kitchel. "We weren't moving early in the game. We picked up our hustle in the fourth quarter and it translated into a win."
Despite chipping away at the Lake lead, Kitchel's Eagles still trailed 35-34 with just under 30 seconds to play. At that point, Jorie Clark calmly knocked down a three-pointer, putting the Eagles up two. Conneaut Lake attempted to tie the game, but missed the shot and Amber Fox pulled down the rebound. Fox was fouled and made both of the ensuing free throws to ice the victory.
While Clark and Fox sealed things late, it was Lindsey Lyon who delivered the biggest game for the winners. Lyon finished with a game-high 18 points. Fox chipped in eight, including a perfect 6-for-6 at the line and Clark finished with seven points.
Youngsville will try to make it five straight Thursday when it hosts Conneaut Valley.
No junior varsity information was available at press time.

Conneaut Valley 49, Eisenhower 42
CONNEAUTVILLE - Eisenhower gave region-leading Conneaut Valley all it could handle, but fell just short in a 49-42 road loss to the Lady Indians.
"We played them pretty tough," said Ike coach Mike Logue whose Knights dropped to 2-7 on the season. "The difference in the game was the foul line. They went to the line 18 times and we only went eight. We did do a better job shooting the ball tonight and executed the little things that we've been working on in practice."
Kristen Williams had another big game for the Knights, knocking down three three-pointers and finishing with a team-hogh 13 points. Haylie Birt and Holly Chapman finished with six points each.
Eisenhower will try to get back on the winning track Thursday at Titusville.
The Knights dropped the junior varsity game, 36-22. Birt led Eisenhower with seven points.

Warren County Christian School won for the second time in three tries Monday with a dominating 37-12 victory over Jamestown Bethel.

"Tonight was the first time they have used a press, and they did not do a bad job," said WCCS coach Rae Parmeter. "Thrilled to get our second win. The girls are improving every game. I'm really proud of the hustle they show."
Alyssa Kerr delivered her fourth double-double in a row Monday with an impressive 15-point, 13-rebound performance. Dymphee Zortman had eight steals and Rachel Wilkins added six thefts of her own to go with a season-high 13 points.
The Lady Lions are back in action Friday, visting Erie Bethel.
