Last week was a fun week to pick an Athlete of the Week from. There were some outstanding individual and team performances, including tournament champions and MVPs in basketball, and county showdowns in wrestling with Warren, Youngsville and Eisenhower all at the Warren Duals. Warren freshman D.J. Fehlman opened even more eyes there, going 5-0 with three pins. In basketball, Mark Davis had a monster couple of games, doing the little things a lot. He had a double-double with 18 points and 13 rebounds in one Warren boys win, and 10 block shots in another. But it was tough to overlook Youngsville 220-pound sophomore Jaykup Durlin, who had three pins at the Warren Duals in an average of 30 seconds, and a 10-0 major decision against Warren senior Mike Crone. It was Durlin's third-period pin there over District 10 Class AAA second-rated wrestler, Nate Warner of Titusville, that put him over the top. Durlin, at 13-1 on the young season, is the Times Observer Athlete of the Week, sponsored by McDonald's.
