SMETHPORT - Sheffield had a rough go on the mat Wednesday night at Smethport, losing 68-6, but Sheffield assistant coach Mark Maines said that the score didn't show the effort.
"The score says we got whipped, but actually a few could have went our way," said Maines. "Having a couple experienced kids out of the line up didn't help. Give Smethport credit-they came after us."
Despite finishing as the loser in a close decision, Eric Moreno had a good match.
"Eric never gives up, and he fought 'til the end," said Maines.
Robert Koetzle was the only Wolverine to come away with a win, which he got by pinning his 182 pound opponent in the first match of the night.
On Saturday, Sheffield travels to Coudersport for a Dual Tournament, and Maines said that they will keep improving, "We're getting closer, we just need to prove it on the mat."
