Three Youngsville Eagles have been named to the All-WesternPAFootball.net Small School Team (Class A-Class AA), all Honorable Mention, for the 2011 season. Youngsville finished 10-1 overall after a 10-0 regular season and Region 2 championship in District 10 Class A.
There is a first team and honorable mention (www.westernpafootball.net). Senior Cory Craig was named Honorable Mention for Offensive Specialist, a position named for a player "who does a few different things," according to Dave Mika Jr., owner of WesternPAFootball.net.
Craig came back with a vengeance after missing his entire junior season with a collarbone injury.
At quarterback, he completed 54 passes for 1,090 yards with 15 touchdowns and just five interceptions. In addition, Craig rushed for 670 yards and another eight scores.
Craig was named Region 2 Player of the Year and was a District 10 all-star as a defensive back.
Senior Sam Lucas wasn't too bad on offense, either, as a running back.
Lucas, however, was named all-state honorable mention at WesternPAFootball.net as a punter. Lucas had 19 punts for 693 yards - a 36.5 average, including two punts inside the opponents' 20-yard line.
Junior T.J. Hardy was named all-state honorable mention as a kicker. Hardy was 4-of-8 in field goal tries - with his long of 37 yards, and 39-of-49 in extra points. He had 64 kick-offs for an average of 38.1 yards per kick. His specialty, however, was the pooch kick-off; the Eagles recovered six on kick-offs during the season.
