Saegertown 46, Youngsville 16
Saegertown jumped to a fast nine-point lead over Youngsville on Friday night and it didn't get any better for the Eagles girls basketball team, which dropped to 0-3 in Region 3 with the 46-16 loss.
"The main thing was that we needed to box out better," said head coach Allison Kitchel.
It took a 3-pointer from Katie Chuzie to stop the visiting Panthers' nine-point run.
After the first quarter, the Eagles were trailing, 15-4.
"It wasn't the height," said Kitchel, referring to the Panthers' tall team. "If we had been boxing out, it wouldn't have been an issue. Amber (Fox) had one of the taller girls and she did pretty well."
Things didn't get any better for the Eagles in the second quarter and they entered the half trailing, 28-5.
Lindsey Lyon would take advantage of free throws in the second half to record 11 out of the team's 16 points for the game.
"Shots just weren't falling for us offensively," said Kitchel.
The Eagles will have a shot to bounce back from the tough loss during the Union City Tournament next week.
