GIRLS HOOPS: Sheffield girls fall to 0-6

AUSTIN - The Sheffield girls basketball team hung with Austin in the first half Tuesday, but the Panthers pulled away in the second half for a 58-35 victory at Austin High School.

Austin featured District 9's leading scorer in Katelyn Valenti and the standout was as advertised on Tuesday. Valenti scored 29 points during the game and the ultra aggressive Panthers got to the charity stripe 28 times during the game.

The loss drops Sheffield to 0-6 on the season with a road game in Smethport scheduled for Friday.

Hannah Vile and Jen Isenberg each finished with 10 points for Sheffield on Tuesday while Abby Labesky chipped in seven points and Sara Hoden six more.

Austin was a 37-34 winner in the junior varsity game. Jade Moore was Sheffield's high scorer with 14 points.
