Warren's girls basketball team shook off a slow start offensively and held Strong Vincent to just 2-of-28 shooting from the field as the Dragons defeated the Colonels 51-7 Monday at Warren Area High School.
Strong Vincent didn't hit its first field goal until there was less than three minutes left in the fourth quarter.
Warren (4-0), playing without starting point guard Jaimie Eaton, had trouble finding its rhythm early in the game, and only led 4-0 midway through the first quarter. Dragons coach Lisa Ruhlman called a timeout to try to get her team back on track.

Tip drill
Warren's Emily Sherman tips the ball out to a teammate following a missed free throw during a girls high school basketball game against Strong Vincent Monday at Warren Area High School.
"I told (the girls) they needed to play like Warren Lady Dragons, play to their potential," Ruhlman said. "It hurts when one of your point guards is on the bench, and it took a while for them to adjust."
The timeout seemed to work as the Dragons went on a 10-0 run in the first minute following the timeout. The Colonels got their only points off of two free throws late in the quarter and by the end of the first, the Dragons had built an 18-2 lead.
For the next two-plus quarters, the Dragons completely shut down the Colonels offensively, not allowing a single point while putting the game well out of reach.
"The upperclassmen really stepped up," Ruhlman said. "We can score without Eaton, but we really missed the leadership early."
Sabrina Anderson had a double-double for the Dragons with 14 points and 10 rebounds. Kristen Hultquist had six points, six rebounds and three blocks. Emily Sherman came up with 11 points, four assists and two blocks in the win.
The Dragons will next be in action on Friday as they travel to Central Tech.
"Competition-wise, our season starts on Friday," Ruhlman said. "These first four games is where we got our feet wet."
Amy Castagnino scored 12 points, and Meghan Loutzenhiser eight, in a 36-16 junior varsity win for Warren.

Bradford 64, Eisenhower 19
It was a rough night for the Eisenhower girls basketball team in a non-region game.
"Bradford plays that two-three zone, which is what a lot of the teams in our league are playing this year," said Eisenhower coach Mike Logue, "but they don't have Bradford's speed."
Bradford was too fast for Eisenhower to keep up with. After the Knights won the opening tip-off, Bradford ended up getting on the board first. Halfway through the first quarter with the Knights down 8-1, Kristen Williams drained her first three-pointer of the night to cut the lead to 8-4.
That would be as close as the Knights could get, and at the end of the first the Owls were up 25-7.
The second quarter didn't fare much better for Eisenhower and they would go back into the locker room down 41-7.
In the second half the Knights would slow the bleeding, but they couldn't stop it. At the beginning of the third quarter Kari Santo would send one from beyond the arc to put the Knights into the double-digits. Shortly after Williams would hit her third of the night. Down 51-13, Santo would get another point from the free throw line after being fouled on a shot.
"They're a young team; they'll bounce back," said Logue. "They'll come out and practice hard tomorrow, I have no doubt of that. Once we start working the ball around and get it a little more inside, that balance should really help out."
The Knights will take the court again on Wednesday, this time against region-foe Conneaut Lake.
