Birthday party shooting
DUQUESNE, Pa. (AP) - Authorities in western Pennsylvania say one man was killed and seven other people wounded when gunfire broke out at a birthday party.
Police were called to the Duquesne residence shortly before midnight Saturday after shots rang out in the basement where the party was being held.
The Allegheny County medical examiner's office says 18-year-old Drew Bracey was pronounced dead early Sunday at UPMC McKeesport.
Police told WPXI-TV that a juvenile female was in critical but stable condition, and six other juveniles and one adult had injuries that were not life-threatening.
Ebony Hawkins told the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette that an unknown gunman arrived shortly before the Sweet 16 party was scheduled to end at midnight and opened fire.
Authorities said they found several guns in the residence after the shooting.
Dead in driveway
PERKIOMENVILLE, Pa. (AP) - State police in suburban Philadelphia say they have arrested a suspect in a shooting that left one man dead in the driveway of a home and injured a second man.
Police in Montgomery County say they were called to an Upper Frederick Township home at 8:16 p.m. Saturday.
Troopers found 19-year-old Zachary Levin of Barto dead in the driveway of the residence. A 34-year-old man had been shot several times and is said to be recovering at an unnamed hospital.
Police said the troopers found another male at the scene suspected of having been the shooter and arrested him. His name has not been released and no charges were immediately filed.
Rooming house slaying
HARRISBURG, Pa. (AP) - A resident of a central Pennsylvania rooming house has been charged in the shooting death of another resident.
Officers in Dauphin County were called to the residence in Paxtonia in suburban Harrisburg at about 5:30 p.m. Thursday.
WHTM-TV says they found 31-year-old Travis Vogelsong with gunshot wounds, and he was pronounced dead at Penn State Hershey Medical Center. Police said the former Perry County resident had moved in recently.
Thirty-nine-year-old Purnell Nelson was charged Friday with criminal homicide. A preliminary hearing is scheduled Jan. 20.
Police said the motive was unclear but witnesses reported hearing an argument between the two men before shots were fired.
Nelson remains in custody; a listed number for him could not be found Saturday and it was unclear whether he had an attorney.
ALLENTOWN, Pa. (AP) - Police in eastern Pennsylvania have arrested two suspects in the shooting deaths of a man and woman in an alley outside their Allentown apartment.
Lehigh County Coroner Scott Grim said 37-year-old Steven Santiago of New York City and 34-year-old Adrian Ramirez of Allentown were shot at about 3:45 a.m. Saturday.
Police and neighbors told The (Allentown) Morning Call that the couple's 4-year-old daughter and another child were sleeping in the nearby unit and were uninjured. Neighbors reported hearing a loud argument shortly before the gunfire.
Twenty-seven-year-old John Boyd of Allentown and a 16-year-old youth were arraigned Sunday on criminal homicide charges and taken to Lehigh County Prison.
Building resident Alexandra Velazquez told the paper that the two victims were from New York and moved in about a year ago.
