BOYS HOOPS: Aaron it out: Lundmark’s seven 3’s help lift Ike over Bears

Aaron Lundmark's seven 3-pointers keyed an offensive outburst for Eisenhower as the Knights ran away in the second half for a 57-38 win over Union City Friday at Eisenhower High School.

"Lundmark was key (tonight)," said Eisenhower assistant coach Jacoby Curtis. "To have a guy come in and shoot clutch three's, each one shifts the momentum (in our favor)."

Eisenhower (2-2) looked as though it might run away with the game early, getting a 3-pointer from Andrew Onoratti on its opening possession as the Knights grabbed a quick 7-3 lead. The Bears cut it to 7-5 before Eisenhower closed out the quarter on a 14-2 run to lead 21-7.

Aaron Lundmark puts up one of the seven 3-pointers he made during Eisenhower's basketball game against Union City Friday at Eisenhower High School. Lundmark finished with a game high 25 points.

Lundmark's three with 3:30 left in the half proved to be the only points Eisenhower would get in the quarter as Union City cut the Knights lead to a single point, 24-23, heading into halftime.

"They started to press in the second quarter," Curtis said. "They took us out of our offense and we got away from the 'team concept'."

The Bears took the lead for the first time in the game with a 5-0 run to start the third quarter. Back-to-back 3-pointers from Onoratti and Lundmark gave the Knights a 30-28 lead that they wouldn't relinquish. Lundmark would connect on three 3-pointers in the quarter and Eisenhower held a 40-30 lead heading into the final period.

The Knights got a little more aggressive offensively in the fourth quarter as they drove to the basket and were able to draw some fouls. Up eight, 44-36, with two minutes to play, the Knights closed out the game with a 13-2 run. Onoratti came up with three big blocks during the run.

"We got back to the team game in the second half," Curtis said. "We want to play at our speed, play press defense and contest every shot."

Lundmark finished with a game high 25 points. Onoratti had four blocks to go along with his 15 points and Colin Shine also finished in double digits with 11 points.

Union City won the JV game 31-25. Ricky Zortman led the Knights with nine points.

The Knights will travel to Cambridge Springs on Tuesday.

East Forest 56, TCCS 25

Tidioute Community Charter School struggled with a stifling East Forest full court pressure defense all first half and never got out of the blocks during a 56-25 loss to the Bears Friday at TCCS.

"Turnovers and rebounding killed us tonight," said TCCS coach Dave Manning. "That was the difference in the ball game. If you don't take care of the ball and keep from turning it over, it's going to be pretty hard to score enough points to win."

East Forest got several easy buckets off backcourt steals and led 37-9 at halftime. The second half was more competitive, but the Bulldogs (0-2) were never able to seriously challenge the visitors.

Kendrick Morrison led the TCCS effort with 10 points and teammate Calvin Marsh added six points. Brian Faulkner added five points and Jordan Yeager four points in the loss.

TCCS dropped the junior varsity contest, 60-9. Todd Breeden led the Bulldogs with four points.

TCCS is back in action Wednesday, hosting West Forest.
