Youngsville had no problem routing North East, 54-15, on Thursday, while only losing one individual match.

"We're a small team. We have to give up a few," explained Youngsville coach Scott Ishman, "but, man, did they fight hard tonight."

Aaron Hoover started things off for the Eagles when, down 7-2 in the third period, he reversed his North East opponent to his back to tie the match, 7-7. In overtime Hoover came through in the clutch again when he took his opponent down, straight to his back, getting three back points before the match was stopped with Hoover ahead 12-7.

Warren's Garrett Smead looks to get extra leverage over his Franklin opponent during their 152-pound match Thursday at Warren Area High School. Smead came away with a 7-3 decision to help the Dragons beat the Knights 53-24.

"Coming back and winning in overtime like that-great win," said Ishman.

The Eagles would continue their domination on the mat, only giving up six points with a forfeit at 145 pounds before Zach Ishman pinned his opponent, and Josh Lewis beat Corey Voorhis by keeping his toes in the circle for a takedown with just seconds left in the match.

"Lewis wrestled probably their best kid. To come out and win like that, he really put on a show," said Ishman.

The Eagles would give up the only loss of the night in a 4-3 decision at 170 pounds. Locked in a 3-3 battle in the third period, Jeremy Lyon's opponent managed to get an escape with 50 seconds left, but Lyons' efforts to get the winning takedown would yield no results.

North East would get its final six points of the night with a forfeit at 195 pounds before Jaykup Durlin pinned his opponent in just 1:14 for Youngsville.

A double forfeit at the 106-pound weight class would end the night.

"That's the fire I've been seeing in the wrestling room," said Ishman. "Tonight, they brought it to the mat. They really wrestled hard."

Warren 53, Franklin 24

Six forfeits helped Warren's wrestlers overcome four losses by pin as the Dragons defeated Franklin, 53-24, Thursday at Warren Area High School.

Robert Brown (heavyweight) picked up the only pin for the Dragons (2-0), and major decision wins for Collin DeLattre (120) and Jonah Hordusky (132) allowed Warren to secure the victory.

"We had some nice wins tonight," said Warren coach Glenn Baldensperger. "We're right where we want to be right now."

After a forfeit at 126, Hordusky added to Warren's total with his win at 132. Two more forfeits (138 and 145) gave Warren a quick 20-0 advantage.

Garrett Smead picked up a hard-fought 7-3 decision at 152 to make it 23-0.

"Smead and Jonah both had solid matches," Baldensperger said.

Things got a little tense for the Dragons as Franklin sandwiched a forfeit at 182 between pins at 160, 171, 195 and 220.

"Some of our younger guys were going against seniors there in the middle (weight classes)," Baldensperger said. "There was a little bit of a mismatch."

Brown's pin in the third period of his match got the Dragons back on track. DeLattre followed forfeits at 106 and 113 with an 11-0 major decision to end the night on a good note for Warren.

The Dragons will compete in the Souther Tier Tournament at Jamestown Community College Friday and Saturday.

Oswayo Valley 51, Sheffield 23

The Sheffield varsity wrestling team came up short on Thursday, 51-23, to visiting Oswayo Valley, but first-year Sheffield head coach Jack Rice is staying patient.

"The team is very young and inexperienced," said Rice, whose Wolverines dropped their opener, 57-18, at Kane, on Tuesday. "We made a lot of mistakes tonight. That said, we wrestled with heart out there."

Hunter Jones got Sheffield off to a great start by pinning his opponent in the second period in the first match of the night. However, Oswayo Valley would take the next five matches with four pins and one decision.

Sheffield won at 145 with Doug Grubbs' 15-0 technical fall, but Oswayo Valley was too strong. Oswayo would finish by winning three of the last four matches to make the final 23-51. At 170, Anthony Jones earned a 47-second pin for Sheffield.
