ERIE - WCCS coach Steve Zwald knew there were going to be some early season growing pains for his WCCS boys basketball team.

Opening the year with the three best teams in the New Penn Christian Conference certainly wouldn't help ease those pains.

Erie First Christian finished with four players in double figures during a 69-26 victory over the Lions on Thursday.

"They were just too good, too fast," said Zwald. "We weren't really in sync at the beginning of the game and they must have gotten 30 first-half points on breakaways. We were able to cut our turnovers significantly, but didn't do any better on the boards tonight."

Josh Carpenter was the lone Lion to finish in double figures with 10 points. Carson Moore added six points and Josh Wagonseller finished with five more. Jamie Petrush had the strongest game on the boards for WCCS, finishing with seven rebounds. Five were offensive rebounds.

WCCS (0-2) visits Meadville Calvary Baptist on Tuesday.
